Machine malfunction brings halt at Anniston chemical weapons incinerator
2010-7-5

ANNISTON -- The Army says an air chilling machine overheated, bringing work in the chemical weapons incinerator at Anniston Army Depot to a temporary halt.

Army spokesman Mike Abrams says the chilling machine overheated around 4 p.m. Thursday, causing workers to begin their fire response plans. Abrams said he did not know whether the overheating caused an actual fire or just smoke or other indications of overheating.

The cilling machine is located in a support room next to the processing building where warheads containing chemical weapons are dismantled and destroyed. It's part of a system that keeps air from escaping from the building.
